A Tribe Called Quest released their first album in 20 years with “We Got It From Here…Thank You 4 Your Service.” This album is a double disc and in total contains 16 tracks. The Space Program starts the album off with a jazzy, boom-bap, New York sound. I think this is a great opener as Q-Tip raps about togetherness and hope.
Track number six, “Kids…” features Andre 3000. Andre 3000 is known for being half of Outkast and he is a great artist. Andre hasn’t released a solo album, so it is always a great to hear him on a guest verse. Q-Tip and Andre rap about kids and how they can be badly influenced. For example, not going to school and not wanting to be the best.
My favorite song on this whole album is “Lost Somebody.” This song is mainly referring to Phife Dawg who was a former rapper from A Tribe Called Quest but died earlier this year because of diabetes. This song is relatable and I love the soulful hook that Cat delivers. “Movin’ Backwards” track 5 on the second disc features one of my favorite artists Anderson .Paak. This song has funk style with the guitar and I think it’s one of the best songs on the album. Anderson is on the hook and he is looking for someone to lead him in the right direction because he doesn’t want to move backwards.
The album closes with “The Donald.” This is a tribute song to Phife Dawg. The Donald features Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip and is repetitive but is great closer for the album. I like the electric guitar that comes in at the middle of the song. It adds a great touch to the song. I think that longtime Tribe fans will enjoy this album as I enjoyed almost every track.
